Did you know that the tradition of using lights to celebrate Christmas originated in Germany and England, and the practice dates back to medieval times?  In the 17th century, German Lutherans decorated Christmas trees with candles to symbolize the light of Christ. The candles were often attached to the tree with pins or melted wax.
